What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob

The key fob included with the Nissan is an essential part of its incredibly advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronic system to open doors or start the engine, and has a practical design that is simple to keep in your wallet. A key fob can also provide benefits, such as locking out protection. This feature makes sure you don't get locked out of your vehicle with the keys inside.

As opposed to earlier models of key fobs, which required you to place the key in the ignition slot to access the onboard systems of your vehicle, smart keys work wirelessly. Nissan detects when you enter your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This can be as simple as locking or opening the doors, lowering and raising the tailgate, and even starting the engine.

Some smart key models feature a concealed metal key for valet parking purposes. This key can be retrieved from a release on the back of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox prior to giving it to the valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.

Intelligent Key Fob

With the Nissan Intelligent Key Fob, you can open your car doors and start its engine with the push of a button. It also allows you to activate an array of presets that cater to your preferences such as adjusting the mirrors and seat for maximum comfort. You can also control the music using your phone, meaning you never have to leave your vehicle.

Intelligent Key Fobs include an antenna built-in which sends the signal to your vehicle every time you push a button or come close to it. When the vehicle receives the signal, the system is activated, unlocking and locking doors, kicking off the engine, and opening the trunk. If you want to test the fob, stand at a distance away from your vehicle and click the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sounds it means you've successfully programmed your Intelligent Key Fob.

Like all remotes, Intelligent Key fobs require batteries in order to function. Our Parts Department will help you quickly and efficiently replace the battery if it is out. To do this, you must remove the key hidden in the lock and open the battery compartment on your key fob. Remove the old battery, then insert a fresh one in its place. Make sure the positive side of the new battery is facing the same direction as the old one did. Finally, close the battery compartment and return the hidden key to its safe place inside the case.

Remote Start

Lockout Protection

Lockout protection eliminates nuisance lockouts caused due to impedance relay failure. A special module within the power control is able to monitor the activity of the impedance relay and disables the output. This feature is only available for vehicles equipped with the Smart Key system or through the personalization menu on the vehicle.

Many serious accidents have happened because of a machine that was running when it should have been completely shut off to allow for maintenance or repair. These accidents are usually the result of stored energy that is not properly released. Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO), which ensures that machines are shut off until a person with authorization releases them, helps avoid these types of accidents.

The LOTO system consists of a series of locks tags, locks and other devices that are used to secure, isolate or block the machine from an electrical source. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel must be educated on the use of these lockout/tag-out devices. These devices include but aren't restricted to chains, locks padlocks and wedges, adapter pins, and self-locking fasteners. Each device is identified and labelled, including the date and the time it was applied along with the name and title of the person who is authorized and the reason for the lockout or tagout (repairs, maintenance, etc.). It should also be clearly stated that these devices are not able to be removed until a thorough LOTO procedure has been followed.
