Saab Key Replacement

Losing your car keys or misplacing them can be very frustrating. If you have an extra key, adding the new key to your car is comparatively inexpensive and easy.

To add a new key, you'll have to remove the electronics from your old key and be able to program it to your car using a Saab tech 2 device. If you delay this process, it will cost you.

Keys lost or stolen

It's as simple as ever to copy the key to your vehicle, just as it was 20 years ago. The only difference is that modern keys come with an electronic chip in the keys. These chips provide a lot of protection from theft and key copying. However, this doesn't mean that you'll never lose your key.

Lockouts

Saab owners are advised to carry a spare key, because it's simpler to replace a stolen or lost one. If you only lose one key, it is a different story. It's expensive to add another key and requires the dealer installing and programming the new TWICE Module (Column Integration Module on older cars) and an OEM key that is brand new (not from Amazon or eBay).

If remote control keys are not locking or unlocking the car, there are many possibilities for the cause. The most common reason is a dead coin-cell battery in the key fob, but it can be caused by worn-out buttons or water damage, or receiver module issues.

If your issue continues to persist even after having tried all of these, you may want to try reprogramming your ignition key. This is accomplished by changing the number count (in inverse Hex) to zero in the ECU. It is necessary to open the case of your key fob in order to do this. This can be accomplished by removing your emergency key from the fob. Once this is done, you can use a flathead screwdriver to open the case and expose the battery. Don't pour or drop liquids into the fob, as this could damage the electronic components.

Broken Keys

Every Saab since 1995 has been required to have an immobilizer system inside the vehicle, which makes it virtually impossible to take your car away without a special key. A transponder that is specialized for the vehicle must be incorporated into the keys to start the car and unlock doors. Replacement
