Tools

Having the right tools at hand is essential when working in the field. This kit was developed with this in mind and includes all of the basic hand tools needed to repair equipment in the field. Repair Patches

If you've got a hole or two in your gear, consider adding some adhesive patches to your rep kit. These patches are made of a high-performance adhesive pre-applied to a rugged polyurethane backing that allows the tear to heal under pressure. The patches are available in colors or clear versions and ensure durability against punctures, as well as sunlight, moisture, saltwater and temperature extremes.

If your kit does not contain any of the above products, consider adding a bag of water-proof Aquaseal wader repair sealant. This water-tight glue will adhere to fabrics and metals to create an indestructible fix. This is ideal for repairs to drysuits, and is also utilized in the field. Let the sealant sit for up to 12 hours to dry before utilizing the repaired equipment.

The essential field fabric kit for Rep kit tents, packs, and rainwear made of silicone-impregnated polyester. This kit includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair swatch and a 1/4 ounce tube of Goretex Silfix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. To use, apply patch over a clean, smooth surface of the area that has been damaged with at least 1/2 inch overlap. Remove release paper from patch surface and rub adhesive with moderate finger pressure (adhesive side up).

Surface preparation is crucial for a successful repair; oils on boots or shoes sunblocks or solvents like Acetone could affect adhesion. To get the best results, use Seam Grip alone or with Cotol-240 Cure Accelerator to speed curing up to 2 hours.

Adhesive patches

If you're on the trail and don't have the time for the full repair of your vulcaniser the patches that are self-adhesive can get you back on the saddle without the wait. Simply roughen the tube using the included scraper, apply one of the self-adhesive patches to roll on.

Use the tube-scuffer for roughening up the surface. This will help the glue stick. Spread a thin layer on the patch. Cover the area with a layer that is at least as large as the patch. The glue should get tacky then press the patch down with a firm pressure and hold it in place.

This kit includes two clear, adhesive-backed Tenacious Tape pressure sensitive fabric repair patches and a 1/4 ounce tube of Seam Grip urethane repair adhesive & sealant. It is perfect for reinforcing damaged sleep bags, rainwear and packs.
